I’m working my way through the Bible looking at examples of God’s infinite knowledge. So I thought I should share my findings. So here we go!
Genesis 16:13 – God sees and knows!! Hagar was Sarah’s maidservant, and Sarah gave her to Abraham to bear her a child, because Sarah was barren. God had promised Abraham that he would be the father of a great nation. Anyhow, Hagar fell pregnant, and she started treating Sarah with contempt, which led to a big fight between the two ladies, and Hagar left. (We human’s sure can complicate situations.)
Anyhow, in this verse, we find Hagar out in the desert, and God appears to her and comforts her. She used the name “El Roi” for God, which means “You are the God who sees.” This tells me that God sees and knows all about us. (For another angle on the story, read this.)
Genesis 20:6 – God knows the integrity and intentions of the heart, so He sometimes arranges circumstances and gives a warning to prevent us from sinning unintentionally.
This was the time when Abraham had gone down to Egypt during a famine. Because he was afraid of being killed because of his wife, Sarah, Abraham said that she was his sister. Well the king, Abimelech, took a liking to Sarah and took her to himself. But, thankfully, God intervened! This verse tells how God prevented Abimelech from touching Sarah.
