Question: How do logic and faith fit into a Christian’s life? The atheists seem to think that logic is everything, whereas the Christian seems to think faith should be everything.
Serge wrote:
There is nothing illogical in the universe. There is however, a limit to what we may perceive as logical.
We only have perception, and our ability to perceive accurately is what is called into question when things do not seem to make sense – we should not fall into the trap of explaining away the mysterious with the tired old “god did it” answer. That is a let down – it fails to even try to reach beyond one’s conditioning.
SO I would say, have your cake and eat it to. Say God did it… and then ask HOW. You’ll be amazed at how little help it’ll turn out He needed. Almost happened on it’s own you’ll discover. God was probably just as amazed as you were.
ME:
This is what we are told, and explains where we’re coming from. It make complete sense to us…
“When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others.” (1 Cor 2:13-15, NLT)
Serge:
Jeanette, sorry but the “I’m special” quote isn’t gonna win you any fans.
Reduce what you’re saying to – “other people aren’t as special as we are” and you’ll see it insulting enough for me to respond, and ludicrous enough for me to laugh.
Me:
Serge (and others) I can understand perfectly, why this all sounds foolish to you.
It is impossible to understand spiritual things with a natural mind. And why can’t humans realize that there is a Mind out there that is smarter than ours… Someone who DOES know it all, and that our understanding is so puny compared to His.
So, why not connect to the One who knows it all?? Then we CAN know!!!
“For,
‘Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?’
“But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor 2:16, NLT)So without that connection, what we say will continue to sound foolish to you. As has been said, IT IS BEYOND HUMAN LOGIC!!
And we’ll just continue going around in circles, trying to get you to see.
Serge:
…”And we’ll just continue going around in circles, trying to get you to see.”
ditto
Me:
I think we’ve come to a stalemate!!
